The Cedar Lakes Fishing Competition

Sunday 4 October was an early morning for some of the residents of Cedar Lakes. These dedicated men, women and children were at the clubhouse at just after six o’ clock to register for the Cedar Lakes Fishing Competition. And this was particularly impressive as some of these residents had been at the Beer fest the day before.

The turnout was great with 35 residents and their visitors’ participating in the days fishing. What was particularly nice to see, was the large number of children that turned out to fish. After a bacon roll and a cup of coffee, the fishing began. The rules were simple. The Fishermen had until 12h00, when the competition closed. There were three categories: Fly Fishing, Bait Fishing and Bass Fishing. The intent was to see who caught the most fish during the morning, as well as who got the biggest catch.

The judges were kept particularly busy as there were 22 fish caught in all, and each fish needed to be weighed and the details advised back to Tammy at the clubhouse. Thank goodness for two way radios.

And then it was time for the prize giving. Our winners were:

  • Ivan – Winner Senior Bass Category – With a whopping 7 fish
  • Juan – Winner Junior Bass Category – With 2 fish
  • Jason- Winner Senior Fly Category – With 4 fish
  • Andrew – Winner Senior Bait Category– With a massive 5 kg Fish- Andrew also won biggest catch of the Day
  • Chloe – Winner Junior Bait Category – with 2 Fish

A huge thank you to our sponsors, namely Solly’s Anglers Corner, Fly Fishing Unlimited and Randburg Mias who donated prizes for the winners.

A big thank you to all the fishermen who participated. Also to Adrian and the Clubhouse staff for getting off to such an early start. Thanks also to the spectators for their support.

Lastly a BIG thank you to Tammy, Ken, Sean, Jeremy, and Dougie for their hard work in putting the event together.
